In my life, I have not much experience organizing events but here I want to talk about one of the worst events that I organized 2 years ago.
It happened on June 2022, when I planned to go for a picnic near a waterfall at a place called Serendah, Selangor with my friends. The reason for this trip is to only have fun and to create some memories, but I didn’t know it was going to turn into bad a situation.
I called my friends and told them my plan and they were all happy to join, because who doesn’t like fun activities right.
So, the next day, me and 5 of my friends arrived early at the spot as planned. We laid down our stuff, made a tent and just enjoyed it.
Well, the place we went is quite dangerous, we all know it and we know that we should be careful.
So, what happened is, after a while having a picnic, we all decided to go for a swim. The water flow was quite fast at that time; our mistake, we didn’t mind it. It happened so, that it rained earlier that morning, my friends were concern about it, but I didn’t care because I wanted to execute the plan so much.
Once we started swimming, we totally forgot the rain part and didn’t realize the waterfall was quite fast. One of my friends started to go into deeper water followed by another. It was only after a few minutes we realized that they were both gone and clearly not in sight.
We shouted calling their names, and suddenly two of them came to the surface of water clearly struggling to get out and drowning at the same time. It was at that moment I knew I had made a terrible mistake. We rushed towards them to help them bring to the land. With the help of a few guys that were swimming, we managed to bring them both out of the water but was very difficult due to the fast flow of the water.
The worst part for me was when one of my friends was not conscious and not breathing. Thanks to a guy, who helped to do a quick CPR and brought him back to life. It was scary to think about what had just happened. There was complete silence between us. Thank God we came back to sense. Called it a day and just went home.
This incident was completely the worst that I ever organized. First mistake, still planned to go when my friend considered not going due to the rain. Second mistake, letting my friend go deeper, without having a thought that the water is flowing fast. And lastly, not knowing what to do when my friend was unconscious.
It was seriously the worst trip I ever made. I said sorry to my friends for not listening to them. I realized I shouldn’t have planned to go waterfall during rainy season. A small mistake from mine could have killed my own friend.
