THE BEST EVENT ( Zainul Muttaqin bin Mohd Nizam ALAM 018886 )

Hari Raya Aidilfitri — a time of celebration for the Muslims after a month of fasting. During this festive season, they hold open houses; an open invite to people of all races. This year, our school organised an event in spirit of the ‘Raya’ and I think it was a brilliant idea. The students got a break from the regular study routine and dined scrumptious ‘Hari Raya’ staple foods. What more could you ask for?

In Egypt, their community did not too much in celebrating Hari Raya Raya Aidilfitri. This is because they more feel grateful to be in Ramadan. Theirs Ramadan feel like Hari Raya for us. For 2019. I was being appointed as a leader for Hari Raya Aidilfitry celebration among Kuala Lumpur and Selangor students that are not able to return Malaysia. As the time goes, we already separated all the need things to-do for the celebration.

Firstly, our hostel was decorated beautifully by our Art students. The frontal was a giant “Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri” poster, rimmed with fairy lights in yellow and green. The only genuine “Hari Raya” decorations set up I had ever seen was through my text book pages, but I am pretty sure that it was pretty legitimate. They even had flaming torches lined up along the stage — I must say they were incredibly entertaining to stare at while awaiting for the guests to arrive.

Some of the food we have been ordered while other things we put on cooking using ‘kawah’ Style. The first things, I already appoint my subordinate to go out and buy all the necessary things such as onions, garlic, cooking oil, peanut and others. Feeling blessed that all our community joining us for this preparation day before the celebration.

The celebration kick started with a dramaence by the medical  students. They reenacted the complete “Hari Raya Puasa” experience from the announcement of the fasting month to the actual feast. It was enlightening to see that this festive season is more than just gorging down yummy food; It presses on togetherness and empathy. For example, a Muslim that sacrifices a cow for meat is obliged to give a larger portion to the less fortunate and little to oneself. Besides, members of the family and community are supposed to cook up the huge feast together. I mean, preparing the ‘lemang, ketupat, rendang, kuah kacang’ is not a one man show; it requires a lot of man power.

After that, the students lined up for their share of Malay food. Teachers served the students curry chicken, Singapore Mi Hun, ‘Nasi Impit’ and ‘Kuah Kacang’. ‘Kuih-muihs’ were too served. All of which were incredibly delectable, I had to refrain myself from having a second serving.

All in all, it was a brilliant idea on the community’s behalf to have thought of such an event. I definitely hope it will be carried out again next year.
